Asian Studies Student ANDREW LYNCH Named Financial Executives Institute (FEI) Outstanding Student
Each spring, the Lexington Chapter of Financial Executives Institute (FEI) awards a $500 scholarship to an outstanding accounting student at each of four colleges and universities: Eastern Kentucky University, Georgetown College, Transylvania University, and the University of Kentucky. The awards are sponsored by the generous support of Crowe Horwath LLP.
This year’s EKU 2018 FEI Outstanding Student award winner is William Andrew Lynch. Andrew is a senior, graduating in May with a Bachelor of Business Administration. His major is Accounting, with a Public Accounting concentration, and his minor is Asian Studies. Andrew’s interest in Asia, and in Korea in particular, began when, several years ago, a guest from South Korea spent some time in his family’s home. His interest in business and accounting was kindled when he started working for Chick-fil-a in 2012.
Andrew spent the Fall 2017 semester in Anyang, South Korea, studying multicultural interactions. In preparation for his term abroad, Andrew learned independently to speak Korean. He describes his skills as “basic conversational” and says that he wants to be fluent. His preparatory work to learn Korean is indicative of the way Andrew approaches any task or project. His dedication and commitment to accomplishing his goals, his strong work ethic, his great attitude, and his eagerness to learn will serve him well throughout his professional career.
In addition to his studies, Andrew has worked throughout his time as an EKU student, making his 3.94 GPA even more impressive. Most recently, he worked with an accounting firm where he was able to apply much of what he learned in his accounting classes. Andrew plans to combine his interest in accounting and his interest in Korean culture as he pursues a masters degree in international finance in South Korea.
FEI Lexington Chapter’s awards ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 10, in Lexington. Andrew was joined for this event by his parents, Travis and Kristie Lynch, and by Dr. Trish Isaacs, Associate Chair of Accounting, Finance, and Information systems.
